RSPCA West Dorset Branch is a separate charity affiliated to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA).  We cover the towns of Dorchester, Bridport, Weymouth, Portland, Lyme Regis, Charmouth, Sherborne and Axminster (Devon) as well as all the surrounding villages and hamlets.  Our main priorities are the welfare and rehoming of local animals.  We raise ours funds within the Branch boundaries and all money raised is spent within the area.  We are responsible for "Taylors Animal Rehoming Centre" at Kingston Maurward, Dorchester.

If you wish to report an Animal Emergency or have concerns regarding the welfare of an animal please telephone 0300 1234 999.  Please also call this number if you need to have an unowned or wild animal collected by an RSPCA Animal Collection Officer.

PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL US REGARDING EMERGENCIES OR CRUELTY AS THIS IS NOT THE MOST EFFICIENT WAY OF DEALING WITH SUCH MATTERS.  CALL 0300 1234 999 AND REPORT THE MATTER TO THE RSPCA NATIONAL CALL CENTRE.  THANK YOU.

The dogs listed below are currently at Woodlands Kennels, Bridport, Dorset.  RSPCA West Dorset Branch is now working together with Woodlands Kennels to help them find new homes.  As a Branch, we pay for the vaccination and neutering of stray dogs which are taken to Woodlands, and assist in home-checking potential new owners.  We hope that through this website we can help to find loving new owners for them all.

If you would be interested in offering a home to any of the dogs listed below, please email us on mail@westdorsetrspca.org and your message will be passed to Woodlands Kennels OR you can contact Woodlands Kennels directly by telephone on 01308 423104.  The Kennels are located at Dorchester Road, Bridport, Dorset, DT6 4PJ.  Please do not telephone Taylors Rehoming Centre with regards to any of the dogs listed below, as we can only advise you to telephone Kennels directly.  Thank you.

Q.  Does RSPCA West Dorset Branch currently have or ever take in dogs in need of new homes?

A.  NO!  We do not currently have the facilities to take dogs in to the care of the Branch.  If you are considering adopting an RSPCA rescue dog, or have a dog which you can no longer take care of, please check out the below links to other RSPCA rehoming centres in the area and contact them for any further details.  Please do NOT contact us at RSPCA West Dorset Branch if you want to adopt a dog or have a dog in need of a new home as we can only help by referring you to the other Centres listed below - click on the hyperlinks to visit their websites and contact them, not us, for more details.

DOGS LAST UPDATED MONDAY 29 JUNE

Amy is  a large lurcher bitch, a sweet natured gentle girl of about 3 or 4 years old. We have to assume she will wander and hunt.  She is a true lurcher.  Elegant and powerful.
Cassie is a puppy of about 8 months, we believe her to be part yellow lab.  She will be very big, she still has a fair bit of growing to do.  She seems to be a good natured girl, though she has not had as much training as she should, she will make someone a wonderful family dog.
Snoopy is a greyhound cross husky, he looks hound, but is husky temperament. He needs experienced dog owners, with no young children. He is a dominant character who needs to learn he is not 'top dog', so he needs owners experienced in some degree of training.
Jake, a GSD cross male, microchipped, about 7 years old.  Jake's owners have left the home he was registered to, with no forwarding details for anyone to contact them.  He seems fearful of children aged around 8 or 9 years so recommend he goes to a home where the children are at least teenagers.  A lively lad, he has now been neutered and vaccinated, and he will need ongoing training, and socialisation, but he is a very nice dog, friendly and affectionate.  Would love lots of exercise and games.

Could you offer a home to a St Bernard dog?

The National RSPCA has over 100 of these very large breed dogs which will require new homes.  You can find more details on these pages.

Please telephone the St Bernard Adoption helpline on 0300 123 8000  if you would like more information.

However, please do think carefully about rehoming a St Bernard - for obvious reasons they are more than you average dog, not only in size, but also in cost of care / feeding.

Please do not phone or email us or Woodlands Kennels regarding the St Bernards.  The St Bernard helpline, 0300 123 8000 is the only way to register an interest - our apologies if you have some trouble getting through, please keep trying.
